One Light Fun with Flowers

Periodically, just for fun, I like to setup a light, find a subject and shoot it. This week the house is filled with fresh flowers from Roses to Peonies, so I chose them. When it comes to lighting you can go from a simple one light setup to a multi-light set, depending on the job in hand. Having selected a slightly darker background I chose a one light setup, to create a little mood.Using a Westcott Apollo 28" softbox, with a Nikon SB-800 set around 1/16th power, I set the light up left of camera and created these simple compositions.2014_0627_peonies_002-Edit2014_0627_roses_017I processed these images in Lightroom and then to Alien Skin Software's Exposure 5.Doing something like this is a great way to practice lighting when you don't have someone available to sit in front of the camera. As they say, practice makes perfect. The more the shoot, the better you'll get. Think of how the light falls, think of your composition, think of your intention. Get out there and make it.~ kate
