My PNW: Oregon Coast

DSCF6234.jpg

Since moving to Seattle in 2007, I have discovered a love of being near the water I’d never really known. I grew up in a landlocked city and trips to the beach were occasional, but being able to hop in the car (or even on a bus) and get to some beautiful body of water in a flash has been wonderful.

When I can, I head out to the coast, from Ruby Beach in Washington to Cannon Beach in Oregon, these spots are relatively close and easy to get to from Seattle. In 2019, I went to the Oregon coast at least three, maybe four times, each time staying in Seaside.

The last week of December I made my final little trip to the Oregon coast, for the year. It was a short trip, meant for reflection, planning for this year and moments of meditation. A bit of a reset as I head into a new year.

Seaside is a little town just north of Cannon Beach, offering many of the conveniences we love (like coffee shops, markets). It also offers easy, beach access at a really nice price. Three of my four trips were in the off season. I love going in the off season as there are typically less people around and the weather is unpredictable and dramatic. Also you can find amazing deals for hotels, right on the beach in the off season.

These trips, of course include moments with a camera, wandering, to some of the same spots I've been to a dozen times before. Seeking new ways to capture them, new elements to focus on, and unique perspectives.
I look forward to many visits and maybe event a retreat in this part of our beautiful planet in 2020.

Have you started any 2020 goals?

Some of mine include:

  • Travelling more in 2020 (including a trip to Alaska)
  • Meditation and Mindfulness
  • Growing my business (of course)
  • Hosting at least one retreat
  • Continued creative collaborations
  • And a few other things I'm still coming up with, it's always a work in progress. ;)
