Treats of New York

I will start this off with …I am not a foodie.I am a photographer, who appreciates pretty food. Sometimes this includes items my taste buds don’t care for. I was originally going to include this in my recently published NYC post, but I decided they’re so awesome I’d make a separate post for them!

WARNING!

This post is not good for the waistband. You can choose to close this tab OR just get sucked in and read on and look at the food porn and drool. Your call!IMG_1716Doughnut PlantYou weren’t ready for that, were you. That is a Creme Brûlée Doughnut. Yep, you heard me right. If you visit NYC, go to the Doughnut Plant. There’s one near Chinatown and one in Brooklyn. You don’t want to miss it. This is technically a dough seed, that’s a smaller doughnut. I’m not really into doughnuts that much anymore, but this was divine, down to the creme filling and the brûlée’d top. It was just perfect to fill that sweet tooth.IMG_2028Shake ShackYou’re on a budget and you want to eat in NYC for less than $20.00, you can do this in a variety of ways. Buy groceries and cook at home. Or you can go to Shake Shack! Haha, those are just two options, there are loads more. While I was in Vegas I met a gal, originally from Brisbane, AU, but now living in the south of England. She was also in New York a few days after WPPI so we got together for lunch. We went to the Shake Shack. Here they have a menu filled with a variety of burgers, plus there are fries (with or without cheese) and then the shakes. Don't forget the shakes! I decided I would spend my calories, I mean money on a shake over fries. So I just had a burger and a shake. The burger had bacon, and cheese (um duh!) and I opted for the caramel shake. They have your faves like Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry, I believe there’s Peanut Butter too. But I absolutely LOVE caramel so I had to go that route. The burger and shake combo came out to about $13. More than I'd like to spend, but damn it was good! The burger is juicy, tasty and not massive. About a million steps up from McDonald’s. Does it cost more, of course, but well worth the treat. While I was in NYC I was mostly cooking at home so this definitely was a treat. Oh, if you go to the location near Times Square, be prepared for a long line. But it seems to move pretty fast.IMG_2411il laboratorio del gelatoMy friend Edward, was in New York some of the same days as I was. Which was cool, we were going to try to meet up, but it didn’t happen. That’s OK, he’s in Seattle so I’m going to catch up with him when I get home. Anyhow, I saw him post an image of some gelato. And thought, man, I am going to have to give that a try while I'm in New York. And I did. One of my last days in New York I went to the Lower East Side I had it in mind I’d try to do lunch at Katz's Deli. It’s kind of nuts, totally not my scene, so I headed out. I know it’s amazing, but that day, I simply wasn’t feeling it. And just across the street what did I find? This gem. And no one was in there. Of course who would be at 11:30 on a wintery New York morning? Um me, apparently…With something like 30 flavours, I focused my attention on a couple. I love fruit flavours in stuff like this, so I had to try the Tangerine. Also the Salted Caramel. I got a small one, but they did three scoops, I had those two along with dark chocolate. It was amazing. So good! They mentioned that they of course have big lines often, but they also distribute their gelato to local restaurants, which is always a nice treat. There you have it, my bad for you foodie treat tour of New York. I am sure there are many other places you can go to find things that taste sinful, but these just might be pretty hard to beat.Hungry? hahahaha;-)
