Travelogue: Glasgow, Scotland

16 - 20 November, 2024

I spent about four days in Glasgow last fall. The first day, I met up with a couple of people, one of whom I’d known on social media for about 15 years, and we finally got to connect in person.

One of the cool aspects of social media is that very thing, being able to meet up with people who you share a common interest, and getting to have conversations in real life.

Part of that time together, we went to the Glasgow Botanical Gardens and spent a couple of hours just wandering around and chatting, and getting to know each other, and it was really fun.

The gardens are a beautiful space to explore. I’d imagine any time of year because much of it is indoors. It’s a short ride on the subway northwest from Central Station in Glasgow.

As usual, I found myself focusing on the details and exploring those details in monochrome. A couple of images just looked better in colour.

After we explored the inside of the interior space, we wandered around outside with a goal to find something to drink. Along the walk, this little squirrel decided to come and say hi, so here’s a photo of a cute squirrel.

A couple of days later, I went to a spot for brunch that a different friend of mine told me about, Wilson Street Pantry.

This is a small spot that has great food, coffee, and desserts. I treated myself to an Eggs Benedict and a mocha and enjoyed a nice, slow meal.

In and around the area, I found an interest in the architecture. Architecture is something I’ve been drawn to for a long time. There’s something special about the detail in buildings that are older, especially buildings over 100 years old.

Today’s buildings are often glass and steel and angular, and just to me, they don’t possess the same kind of character.

If you find some time to spend in Glasgow. Wander around Central Railway Station. Snag a cup of coffee at Gordon Street Coffee. Wander around Buchanan Street for all the shopping you could want. Or head to the Botanical Gardens for a relaxing stroll.
