Travelogue: St. Andrews
13 November, 2024
St. Andrews, Scotland, is a sought-after destination for golfing. However, I’m not much of a golfer. For the non-golfer, exploring the beach and slightly rocky shore is something I am in for.
I’ve been to St. Andrews once before, about 10 years ago. I knew when I was planning my road trip last year, I wanted to revisit it. St. Andrews was a stop on the road from Lunan Bay toward Dunfermline.
In reflecting on my time in the area, I wish I’d spent time walking through the town. However, this spot on the beach always draws me in. I love the connection to nature, water, and beautiful views.
When the tide is low, you can catch details of smaller lifeforms and plants that may reside along this rocky shore. Or you can just wander the smooth sandy beach and watch those waves roll in, with the birds.
On both visits, I have been very focused on the rocky area, capturing wide-angle shots of the rock formations and getting some of those details.
After about two hours of focused details on rocks, nature, water, and the shore, I found a little spot for coffee along the beach pathway with views of the shore and golf course. Coffee = fuel for the next bit of driving.
If you choose this area as a destination on your visit to Scotland, I’d head to this parking area and explore. Consider boots/shoes you don’t mind getting a little messy!
